Indonesia Launches 100 GWp Solar Program
A national target that could reshape demand for storage, cable and PV infrastructure.
The opening phase covers 14 solar projects across six provinces with approximately 5.3 GWp of planned capacity. For EPCs and suppliers, the announcement points to a much wider balance-of-system opportunity

President Prabowo Subianto formally launched Indonesia's 100 GWp solar power program on 25 August 2026. The opening portfolio comprises 14 projects in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, the Bangka Belitung Islands and the Riau Islands.
Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources highlighted projects ranging from the 300 MWp Gilimanuk development and 134 MWp Gajah Mungkur floating solar project to smaller community and island installations at Sembur Village and Rengit Island.
"The opportunity is not confined to solar modules. At this scale, storage and electrical infrastructure become part of the national delivery challenge."
SINELINK MARKET VIEW
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
From Gilimanuk to a National Three-Year Target
The president called for the wider target to be pursued within three years. Public reporting at the launch placed potential investment associated with the program at approximately US$62 billion.
That figure describes the possible scale of a national, multi-project program-not a single committed procurement package. Individual financing, construction schedules and equipment requirements will still depend on project development and approval..
SYSTEM IMPACT
Why Solar at This Scale Brings Storage Into Focus
Solar production is concentrated during daylight hours, while demand continues after sunset. As variable generation expands, storage can move energy into later demand periods, reduce curtailment and improve flexibility in weak-grid or island applications.
ENERGY SHIFTING
Store surplus daytime generation and discharge during later demand periods.
GRID SUPPORT
Support microgrids, island systems and networks with limited flexibility.
DIESEL REDUCTION
Reduce generator runtime where solar, storage and controls are properly matched.
Storage capacity cannot be derived from PV capacity alone. Utility plants, industrial parks and commercial facilities require different power, duration and control strategies based on load profile, tariff, grid condition and backup objectives.
COMMERCIAL RESPONSE
Where SINELINK Fits Into the Project Landscape
SINELINK supplies modular outdoor and containerized energy storage systems for commercial, industrial and project applications. The portfolio includes 100kWh and 215kWh outdoor cabinets, a 261kWh liquid-cooled integrated cabinet, solar-plus-storage configurations and 20ft or 40ft BESS platforms.
The 261kWh LFP battery system, liquid cooling, system controls and coordinated safety interfaces. Optional inverter configurations should be selected against the actual PV input, grid connection and operating strategy.

BALANCE OF SYSTEM
PV Cable Is Critical Infrastructure, Too
A program of this scale requires dependable solar DC cable, connectors, grounding conductors and energy storage cable. Indonesia's climate can expose electrical systems to high temperature, intense UV, humidity, rainfall, salt-laden air and long cable runs.
SEVEN QUESTIONS BEFORE CABLE APPROVAL
01 Which market and standard?
02 What maximum voltage and current?
03 What route length and voltage-drop limit?
04 What temperature and grouping?
05 What water and mechanical exposure?
06 Which connector and terminal?
07 Which certificate scope?
Relevant SINELINK options include EN 50618 H1Z2Z2-K solar cable, PV1-AL-F1X aluminum-alloy solar cable, protected underground constructions, grounding cable and project-specific DC cable solutions.
OUTLOOK
From a National Target to Deliverable Projects
Indonesia's announcement reflects a regional shift toward complete energy systems. Delivery requires coordination across PV modules, inverters, BESS, energy management, cables, connectors, protection and grid connection.
For EPC contractors, distributors, system integrators and project developers, aligning storage configuration and cable design early can reduce procurement risk, improve document control and simplify installation.
