IN THIS GUIDE

01 / BUYER BRIEF

Quick answer for buyers

Before the fair, prepare five items: a clear specification, a supplier shortlist, required standards and evidence, a structured RFQ, and a comparison process. During meetings, verify who manufactures the product, which specifications and documents apply, what the quotation includes, and what information remains unconfirmed. After the fair, normalize quotations, request missing evidence and samples, and complete due diligence before a significant order.

  1. Define the product, application, destination market and required standard.
  2. Shortlist suppliers whose product scope matches the requirement.
  3. Use one RFQ format so every supplier quotes the same basis.
  4. Record technical evidence, commercial terms and open questions during each meeting.
  5. Verify documents and evaluate samples before approving an order.

02 / PREPARE & DEFINE

Before the fair prepare your sourcing plan

A large exhibition rewards preparation. Without a defined application and specification, buyers often collect quotations for products that look similar but differ in construction, certification scope, accessories, packaging or delivery terms.

Pre-fair checklist

  • □   Define the product and application.
  • □   Identify the target country or region.
  • □   List the technical standards and required certification or listing basis.
  • □   Estimate the trial quantity, initial order and annual demand.
  • □   Set the required delivery window and destination port.
  • □   Define labeling, reel, carton and private-label requirements.
  • □   Prepare one RFQ and one supplier comparison sheet.
  • □   Book meetings with priority suppliers and leave time for follow-up discussions.

Build the product list around the project

For PV projects, start with the required solar DC cable families, relevant solar PV connectors, cable assemblies and balance-of-system items. For storage projects, separate residential energy storage systems from commercial and industrial energy storage systems because their design inputs, integration work and purchasing evidence differ.

03 / PREPARE & DEFINE

Prepare product specifications before requesting prices

Do not rely on a product name alone. Two products with similar names may use different constructions, approved ranges, interfaces or documentation. A useful RFQ identifies the parameters that determine technical fit and quote comparability.

Solar cable specification checklist

Requirement

Buyer input

Cable designation and standard

For example, project-specified EN, IEC or UL context

Conductor

Material, class and nominal cross-sectional area

Electrical

System voltage, corrected current and voltage-drop target

Environment

Temperature, UV exposure, moisture, routing and installation method

Construction

Insulation, sheath, color and marking requirements

Evidence

Required certificate or listing, datasheet and batch documents

Interface

Connector model, cable outer diameter and termination method

Commercial

Quantity, packing length, destination, Incoterm and requested date

For example, "Need H1Z2Z2-K cable" is incomplete. State the conductor size, project standard, system voltage, route and installation conditions, required evidence, quantity, packing and destination market. The final cable size still requires the project calculation and interface check.

04 / PREPARE & DEFINE

Create a supplier shortlist

Canton Fair is too large for unstructured booth visits. Build a preliminary list and identify what each meeting must confirm.

Supplier field

What to record

Identity

Legal company name, website and contact

Role

Manufacturer, brand owner, integrator or trading company

Product fit

Relevant product family and application experience

Manufacturing

Production location and in-house processes

Evidence

Applicable certificates, listings and test documents

Commercial

MOQ, indicative lead time, packing and quotation basis

Meeting

Booth, date, attendee and follow-up owner

Research questions should be specific: Does the supplier manufacture the quoted product? Does the document holder match the manufacturing entity? Does the approved scope cover the quoted model, construction and size? Can samples and current technical documents be provided?

05 / VERIFY & SELECT

Evaluate solar and energy storage suppliers

A brochure is only an introduction. A defensible evaluation separates company identity, manufacturing, technical evidence, commercial terms and export execution.

Dimension

Checks

Company

Legal identity, location, contact continuity and product focus

Manufacturing

Facilities, processes, quality controls, testing and traceability where applicable

Technical

Specifications, standards, approved range, test reports, samples and customization limits

Commercial

MOQ, quote validity, lead time, Incoterms, payment, packaging, warranty and support

Export

Destination-market experience, documents, logistics and compliance coordination

If manufacturing evidence is important to the decision, review SINELINK's capabilities and factory information before requesting product-specific documents or arranging an audit.

06 / VERIFY & SELECT

Verify product certifications and document scope

A logo on a catalogue or product image is not enough. For a product sold on the basis of certification or listing, verify the certificate or listing number, issuing body, holder, manufacturer, factory location, product family, construction, size range, standard and current status. The quoted product must fall within the approved scope.

Questions for document verification

  • Is the document issued to the same entity that will manufacture the quoted product?
  • Does it cover the exact model or product family?
  • Are the conductor size, construction, marking and voltage context within scope?
  • Can the record be checked through the certification body or listing database?
  • Do the latest datasheet, sample marking and quotation describe the same product?

Treat a missing or mismatched field as an open verification item, not as automatic proof of non-compliance. Ask the supplier to reconcile the document, product marking and quotation before approval.

07 / VERIFY & SELECT

Solar cable buyer checklist

Use one completed specification for every supplier. This makes technical and commercial differences visible before price comparison.

  • □   Cable designation and applicable project standard
  • □   Conductor material, class and cross-sectional area
  • □   Maximum system voltage and corrected circuit current
  • □   Ambient conditions, grouping, routing and installation method
  • □   Insulation, sheath, UV, flame and halogen requirements where applicable
  • □   Current certificate or listing required by the project
  • □   Cable color, marking, packing length and quantity
  • □   Connector model, cable outer diameter and termination tooling
  • □   Destination, Incoterm, requested delivery and batch-document requirements

Questions to ask a solar cable supplier

  1. Which standard and current document apply to the quoted cable?
  2. Who holds the certificate or listing and where is the cable manufactured?
  3. Which construction, conductor sizes and markings are within scope?
  4. What routine, type or batch tests are available for review?
  5. What application and installation limits should the buyer check?
  6. Which packing, printing and assembly options can be confirmed?
  7. What are the MOQ, quotation basis and production lead time?
  8. What information is still required before a firm quotation?

Use the Solar DC Cables category to compare cable families before moving to model-level verification.

08 / VERIFY & SELECT

PV connector buyer checklist

Evaluate the connector together with the cable, termination method and system design. Similar housings do not prove identical interfaces or approved combinations.

  • □   Exact connector manufacturer, family and model
  • □   Rated voltage and current for the intended configuration
  • □   Conductor size and cable outer-diameter range
  • □   Mating interface and permitted counterpart
  • □   Ingress protection and environmental limits for the assembled product
  • □   Contact material, locking method and required assembly tools
  • □   Applicable certification and test documentation
  • □   Installation instructions, inspection criteria and packaging

Do not assume that every connector marketed as "compatible" can be cross-mated. Confirm the permitted mating combination, the product instructions and the project's certification requirements. Use the connector category for model selection.

Compare inline, branch and protection-focused PV connector options by circuit function and verified model data.

09 / VERIFY & SELECT

Energy storage supplier checklist

Energy storage procurement requires project-level inputs because power, usable energy, duty cycle, electrical architecture, environmental conditions and local requirements affect the system design. Do not compare only the nominal kWh figure.

Battery and system inputs

Area

Information to request or confirm

Application

Self-consumption, peak shaving, backup, demand management or another defined use

Battery

Chemistry, cell source, nominal and usable energy, operating window and test basis

Power

Rated power, charge/discharge limits, duration and overload conditions

BMS and controls

Protection functions, monitoring, interfaces, protocols and integration responsibility

System

Architecture, PCS/inverter relationship, cooling, enclosure, auxiliary loads and protection

Site

Grid, voltage, ambient temperature, altitude, indoor/outdoor placement and installation constraints

Evidence

Datasheets, test reports, transport documents, installation manuals and project-required certifications

Commercial

Warranty terms, exclusions, delivery scope, commissioning, service and spare parts

Ten questions for an energy storage supplier

  1. What application and operating profile is this configuration designed for?
  2. Which battery chemistry and cell model are proposed?
  3. What are the nominal energy, usable energy and rated power?
  4. How is cycle life stated and under which test conditions?
  5. Which BMS, PCS or inverter interfaces and protocols are supported?
  6. Which protection, cooling and fire-safety functions are included?
  7. Which standards, certifications and transport documents apply?
  8. What is included in the warranty and which operating conditions apply?
  9. Who is responsible for design, installation, commissioning and after-sales support?
  10. Which project data are needed before a firm configuration and quotation?

Start from the appropriate product family: residential energy storage systems for home-scale configurations, or commercial and industrial energy storage systems for business-site and larger project requirements.

Residential ESS

Home-scale configurations and household application requirements.

Commercial & industrial ESS

Business-site and larger project integration requirements.

10 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Compare suppliers on the same basis

A lower unit price may reflect a different construction, scope, approved range, packing method, delivery term or warranty. Normalize every quotation before ranking suppliers.

11 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Prepare the RFQ before supplier meetings

A structured RFQ gives suppliers the same technical and commercial basis. It also reveals which inputs are missing before a firm quote is possible.

Solar cable RFQ fields

  • Product: designation, standard, conductor, cross-sectional area, voltage, construction, color and marking.
  • Application: system voltage, current, route, environment, installation method and connector interface.
  • Evidence: certificate or listing requirements, datasheet, test report and batch documents.
  • Quantity: trial order, initial order, annual forecast and packing length.
  • Commercial: price break, MOQ, lead time, payment, Incoterm and quote validity.
  • Logistics: destination, port, packaging, label and shipping-document requirements.

Energy storage RFQ fields

  • Project location, application and operating objective.
  • Required power, usable energy, duration and expected duty cycle.
  • Site electrical data, grid requirements and connection constraints.
  • Battery, BMS, PCS/inverter, protocol and monitoring requirements.

For a project-specific response, send the RFQ and available BOM to SINELINK or email sales@sinelinkenergy.com.

12 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Prepare standard questions for every booth

Use a repeatable interview structure. This prevents a strong sales presentation from replacing the evidence needed for comparison.

Topic

14 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Follow up after Canton Fair

The exhibition creates contacts; the sourcing decision happens in follow-up. Give each open item an owner and due date.

Timing

Actions

Within 24 hours

Save contacts, brochures, samples, quotations and meeting notes; identify missing information.

Within 3 days

Request formal quotations, certificates, reports, datasheets and samples; confirm MOQ and lead-time basis.

Within 7 days

Normalize quotes, shortlist suppliers, evaluate samples, plan audits or inspections and close technical gaps.

Before order

Approve the final specification, evidence, golden sample where applicable, commercial terms and quality plan.

15 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Consider an audit or inspection for significant orders

The level of due diligence should reflect product risk, regulatory requirements, order value and relationship length. A factory audit or qualified third-party inspection can provide additional evidence about production processes, quality controls, test equipment, raw-material control, traceability, storage, packaging and capacity. Define the audit scope in advance; a factory visit is not a substitute for product-specific technical verification.

16 / COMPARE & FOLLOW UP

Common buyer mistakes

Mistake

Better practice

Comparing only price

Normalize the specification, scope, Incoterm, packing, warranty and lead time first.

Accepting a logo as proof

Verify the document holder, manufacturer, model and approved scope.

Using vague specifications

Issue one project-specific RFQ with measurable requirements.

Ignoring MOQ and quote basis

Record quantity breaks, validity, currency and included costs.

Treating lead time as shipping time

Separate production, inspection, dispatch and transport timing.

Collecting brochures without notes

Record evidence, open questions, owner and due date during the meeting.

Stopping after the exhibition

Continue sample review, document verification and supplier due diligence.
