1,500 V DC H1Z2Z2-K cable with stainless-steel wire braid for rodent-prone solar installations
Product Features
- Stainless-steel anti-rodent barrier: A closely woven external braid makes the cable difficult to bite through and protects the underlying polymer jacket.
- 1,500 V DC PV performance: Designed for string and array circuits in modern commercial and utility-scale photovoltaic systems.
- Flexible tinned-copper conductor: Provides low resistance, corrosion protection and reliable crimp performance across demanding outdoor routes.
- Double cross-linked polymer protection: XLPO insulation and jacket deliver heat, UV, moisture and weather resistance.
- High braid coverage: An 80-85% steel-wire coverage balances protection with manageable cable flexibility.
- Cold-weather installation performance: Cold-bend performance at -40°C supports solar projects in low-temperature regions.
- Flame non-propagation: Meets the single-cable flame test requirements of IEC 60332-1.
- Flexible project configuration: Conductor size, insulation colour and jacket colour can be selected to suit the cable schedule.

Stainless-steel wire braid with 80-85% coverage, forming a durable physical barrier against chewing and mechanical contact. |
|
Identification |
Optional insulation and jacket colours with durable cable marking for polarity and circuit identification. |
Typical Applications
- Utility-scale solar farms: Protects long exposed string-cable routes where field rodents can damage conventional polymer-jacketed cable.
- Agrivoltaic projects: Supports PV installations operating alongside crops, livestock areas and irrigation infrastructure.
- Ground-mounted commercial arrays: Provides extra protection under modules, along fences and across accessible cable trays.
- Remote and off-grid systems: Reduces pest-related cable failures at sites where inspection and repair access is limited.
- Warehouse and rooftop service areas: Protects exposed DC cable routes near nesting areas, utility spaces and roof penetrations.
- Repowering and repair projects: Replaces repeatedly damaged PV cable while retaining an EN 50618 / IEC 62930 electrical design basis.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the steel braid protect against rodents?
The stainless-steel mesh creates a hard physical barrier around the polymer jacket. It discourages chewing and makes it much harder for teeth to reach the insulated conductor.
Is the cable completely rodent-proof?
No cable can guarantee protection in every environment. Braid coverage, installation quality, exposed transitions and pest pressure all affect performance. The steel braid materially improves resistance but should be part of a wider site-control strategy.
Is this the same as a conventional armored power cable?
No. It is a photovoltaic cable with an external stainless-steel anti-rodent braid. The braid provides mechanical protection but is not automatically equivalent to the armour system of a low-voltage distribution cable.
Can the steel braid carry fault current?
Only if the complete design establishes its electrical continuity, cross-section, terminations and fault-current capacity. It should not be treated as a protective conductor by default.
Can standard PV connectors be used?
Yes, when the conductor size and cable dimensions match the connector. The steel braid must be correctly terminated outside the connector sealing and crimp zone.
Which sizes have detailed dimensional data?
Standard reference data is provided for 4, 6 and 10 mm². Other conductor sizes can be engineered to match the project current, routing and certification requirements.
