SMALL-CROSS-SECTION PV CABLE / PROJECT-SPECIFIC SELECTION
We are a manufacturer of 2.5 mm² H1Z2Z2-K cable in China, and we primarily produce various types of solar cables.
Designed for short, lower-current photovoltaic DC circuits where electrical calculations, installation conditions, and connector compatibility support a 2.5 mm² conductor.
When is 2.5 mm² solar cable suitable?
Consider 2.5mm² H1Z2Z2-K cable for a short, lower-current PV circuit only when corrected current capacity and voltage-drop calculations both permit it. The cable must also match the connector contact, seal, gland and crimp tooling. For longer routes, higher current, elevated temperature or grouped circuits, 4mm² or 6mm² may provide a more suitable design margin.

2.5mm² H1Z2Z2-K 1500V Solar Cable: Product Overview
2.5mm² H1Z2Z2-K 1500V Solar Cable is a flexible, single-core photovoltaic cable for DC routes that do not require the conductor area of common 4mm² or 6mm² string cables.
Its value is not simply lower copper use. When the design genuinely permits 2.5 mm², the smaller overall diameter can reduce packed weight, simplify routing in compact equipment, and support efficient factory-made cable assemblies.
It should never be chosen based on panel wattage, habit, or purchase price alone. Route length, corrected circuit current, voltage drop, ambient temperature, grouping, connector compatibility and the project specification remain part of the decision.

The values below are based on the existing SINELINK H1Z2Z2-K size table. Final production tolerances and certificate scope must be confirmed from the approved order documents.

Procurement control: do not use a general catalogue statement as proof of certification. Ask for the current certificate and verify that it covers the manufacturer, cable model and ordered 2.5mm² size.
Applications for 2.5mm² 1500V DC Solar Cable
These are selection situations, not automatic approvals. The project designer must verify the actual circuit.
01 / SHORT ROUTES
Module and equipment leads
Compact DC connections where current and voltage drop remain within approved design limits.
02 / CONTROLLED ASSEMBLY
Pre-assembled cable sets
Repeat lengths produced with a defined contact, seal, crimp tool, polarity and testing process.
03 / COMPACT EQUIPMENT
Small PV equipment
Space-sensitive wiring where terminals, protection and thermal conditions support the smaller conductor.
04 / OEM PROGRAMS
Repeat production supply
Documented cable assemblies where material, packed weight and interface control matter at volume.
2.5mm² vs 4mm² Solar Cable: Selection Guide
| Selection factor | 2.5mm² | 4mm² |
|---|---|---|
| Typical design position | Shorter, lower-current or compact circuits | Common general PV string wiring |
| Resistance at equal temperature | Higher | Lower |
| Voltage drop at equal current and length | Higher | Lower |
| Diameter and packed weight | Generally lower | Generally higher |
| Connector availability | Requires careful verification | Often more widely supported |
| Sensitivity to route and correction factors | Higher | Lower due to greater conductor area |
Selection rule: do not substitute 2.5mm² for 4mm² solely to reduce cable cost. Use the smaller size only when the full circuit calculation and equipment interface support it.
2.5mm² Solar Cable Voltage Drop Example
Assume a 20m one-way DC route, 10A circuit current, and the stated maximum conductor resistance of 8.21Ω/km at 20°C.
APPROXIMATE LOOP VOLTAGE DROP
2 × 0.020km × 10A × 8.21Ω/km = 3.284V
At 600V operating voltage:
≈ 0.55%
At 300V operating voltage:
≈ 1.09%
This example explains the method; it is not a final cable-sizing result. Operating temperature, grouping, installation method, correction factors, equipment limits and the project voltage-drop target must also be applied.
PV Connector Compatibility for 2.5mm² Solar Cable
A connector described as suitable for "solar cable" is not automatically suitable for every 2.5mm² cable. Confirm the complete interface:
- The contact is approved for a 2.5mm² flexible conductor.
- The sealing range covers the actual cable outside diameter.
- The specified crimp tool and die match the contact and conductor.
- Cable and connector voltage ratings meet the project requirement.
- The project permits the proposed connector mating combination.
- Finished assemblies receive the required visual, mechanical, and electrical checks.
When to Choose 4mm² or 6mm² Solar Cable Instead
01 Corrected design current exceeds the permitted value.
02 Route length creates excessive voltage drop.
03 Temperature or grouping reduces current capacity.
04 Connector or terminal does not approve 2.5mm².
05 Tender documents set a larger minimum size.
06 Additional electrical or mechanical margin is required.

2.5mm² H1Z2Z2-K Solar Cable FAQs
Can 2.5mm² solar cable be used for a complete rooftop PV system?
Not by default. It may suit some short, lower-current circuits, but every route must satisfy current, voltage-drop, environment and equipment-interface requirements. Other routes may require 4mm², 6mm² or larger cable.
Is this 2.5mm² cable rated for 1500V DC?
The product is specified as an H1Z2Z2-K 1500V DC photovoltaic cable. Check the ordered model, cable marking and current certificate scope before using the rating in a project submittal.
Can 2.5mm² cable be used with a PV connector?
Yes, when the connector contact, seal, cable outside diameter and crimp tooling are specifically compatible. Cross-section alone does not confirm connector fit.
Is 2.5mm² cheaper than 4mm² solar cable?
It normally uses less conductor material, but final cost also depends on quantity, copper price, construction, documentation, packaging and assembly requirements. Electrical suitability must be confirmed before price comparison.
Can SINELINK supply finished 2.5mm² extension leads?
Finished leads can be reviewed when cable length, connector interfaces, polarity, labeling, test requirements, and quantity are provided. Availability depends on the approved cable-and-connector combination.
