Confirm connector conductor and cable-diameter ranges, contact, seal, housing, tool and mating family. Also control glands, terminals, routing, drums and pulling limits. A same-size cable substitute can still invalidate connector compatibility.
Normalize commercial offers
Compare conductor metal/weight basis, length tolerance, copper adjustment formula, MOQ, packing, private label, inspection, spares, documents, warranty, Incoterm, lead time and payment. A lower EXW metre price may create a higher delivered cost after drums, inspection, freight, loss or rework.
Approve preproduction documents
Freeze the datasheet revision, certificate matrix, marking artwork, reel label, packing drawing, BOM, sample if required, inspection/test plan and production schedule. Changes to material, factory, construction, marking or components require written approval.
Control production and pre-shipment inspection
Define hold or witness points and sampling for conductor resistance, dimensions, insulation/sheath, marking, length, color, applicable routine electrical tests, packing and reel traceability. Inspectors should use approved project documents, not a generic checklist.
Verify shipping and incoming acceptance
Match packing lists, reel numbers, container or seal records and shipping documents. On receipt, check damage, quantities, reel labels, marking and agreed sample tests before site release. Quarantine nonconforming or damaged reels and preserve traceability after cutting.
Close out and control change
Collect final certificates, declarations, inspection records, reel list, as-shipped datasheet, warranty, nonconformance/deviation closure and logistics evidence. Feed site issues into supplier evaluation and the next purchase specification.
