Al / XLPE / PVC Power Cable

Al / XLPE / PVC Power Cable

Aluminium conductor, XLPE insulated and PVC sheathed cable for fixed low-voltage distribution YJLV 0.6/1 kV power cable provides a lighter and cost-efficient alternative for fixed low-voltage distribution. The aluminium conductor reduces cable weight on long routes, XLPE insulation supports reliable thermal and electrical performance, and the PVC sheath protects the cable in trays, ducts, tunnels, shafts and mechanically protected outdoor installations.

Product Features

  • Lower installed conductor cost: Aluminium is well suited to long feeders and larger distribution circuits where space permits a larger conductor cross-section.
  • Reduced cable weight: The lighter conductor simplifies drum handling, cable pulling and support loading on long routes.
  • XLPE insulation: Provides strong electrical properties and supports a 90°C maximum conductor temperature in normal service.
  • Protective PVC sheath: Resists normal abrasion, moisture and environmental exposure in fixed installations.
  • Broad size range: Single-core sizes extend from 1.5 to 630 mm², with two-core sizes from 1.5 to 185 mm² in the listed range.
  • Flexible installation options: Suitable for cable trays, conduits, ducts, shafts, service tunnels and protected underground routes.

Cable Construction

Component

Description

Conductor

Solid, stranded or compacted aluminium conductor selected according to cable size and applicable conductor class.

Insulation

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) providing the primary 0.6/1 kV electrical insulation.

Core assembly

Two insulated conductors assembled into a stable cable core in two-core constructions.

Outer sheath

PVC sheath providing mechanical and environmental protection for fixed installation.

Cable type

Unarmoured YJLV construction; external mechanical protection is required where impact or crushing is possible.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial distribution: Feeds switchboards, motor-control centres, workshops and fixed production equipment.
  • Commercial buildings: Connects main and sub-distribution boards across long internal service routes.
  • Infrastructure projects: Supports power distribution in transport facilities, water plants, warehouses and municipal installations.
  • Renewable-energy facilities: Provides AC-side auxiliary and distribution connections for solar and energy-storage projects.
  • Utility service routes: Offers a lower-weight conductor solution for ducts, cable tunnels and protected external feeders.
  • Large fixed loads: Supplies HVAC equipment, pumps and other stationary loads where the termination system is designed for aluminium conductors.

Selection Guide

  1. Load current: Use the aluminium-cable ampacity table for the actual installation method. Do not select YJLV using a copper-cable cross-section table.
  2. Voltage drop: Aluminium has higher resistance than copper at the same cross-section. Long feeders commonly require a larger aluminium conductor.
  3. Short-circuit withstand: Check conductor thermal withstand against the maximum prospective fault current and protective-device clearing time.
  4. Installation derating: Apply correction factors for ambient temperature, grouping, conduit, soil conditions and thermal insulation.
  5. Termination compatibility: Use terminals, lugs and glands rated for aluminium conductors and for the cable's conductor class and shape.
  6. Mechanical exposure: Standard YJLV is unarmoured. Add conduit, ducts, covers or another protective method where impact, crushing or high tensile load is possible.
  7. Fire requirements: The standard PVC sheath is not a low-smoke zero-halogen construction. Use a dedicated cable design when LSZH performance is required.
